CASE STUDY 3
CLIENT SPECIFICATION:
To construct a new siding alongside, and level
with, an existing track.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED:
After our pre-tender site inspection, we determined
that approximately 300cu
metres of surplus material
would need to be removed from site.
There was the likelihood that
residual soil contamination was present.
To remove
this would increase the
project cost by up to £100,000.
SOLUTION:
A.L.A. proposed to overcome the problem with some
lateral thinking. We decided
to solve the issues
of the environmental implications by not disturbing
the existing
formation. Instead, our proposal
was to raise the track level by approximately
300mm which would avoid the increase in project
costs.
This proposal was accepted by the client.
